A quality vinyl wrap, professionally installed, typically lasts five to seven years — and often longer on protected panels. Here is what determines where your wrap lands in that range.
The film and the installer
Premium film from 3M or Avery is engineered to resist UV fade and lifting. Just as important is the install: properly cleaned, tensioned and post-heated film that is sealed at the edges lasts dramatically longer than a rushed job.
Where and how you park
Constant sun and heat are the biggest enemies of any wrap. A car kept in a garage or shade will hold its finish longer than one that bakes in a lot every day.
How you wash it
- Hand wash with a pH-neutral soap
- Avoid automatic brush car washes
- Keep pressure washers at a distance and away from edges
- Remove bird droppings, sap and fuel spills promptly
When to remove it
Removing a wrap at the end of its life — before the film becomes brittle from age — keeps removal clean and easy. Leave a failing wrap on too long and it can become harder to take off.
